In 2018, Cape Town emerged from a devastating drought and a water crisis that almost shut down the city. 2017 was one of the driest years on record in the Western Cape and many areas were ravaged by wildfires. This series is based on the aftermath of a fire in the Glencairn area. The lush hills were reduced to a bare moonscape and slow moving animals like tortoises perished in the hundreds. What will happen to our world if climate change and extreme weather events continue unabated?

Our family has a farm near the tiny town of Willowmore in the Great Karoo. The silence at night becomes a noise of it's own and the vast empty landscapes both calm and unsettle me. These images were all made in 2010 after a long trip to the farm.
