Cape Town is just emerging from a devastating drought and a water crisis that almost shut down the city. 2017 was one of the driest years on record in the Western Cape and many areas were ravaged by wildfires. This series is based on the aftermath of a fire in the Glencairn area. The lush hills were reduced to a bare moonscape and slow moving animals like tortoises perished in the hundreds. What will happen to our world if climate change and extreme weather events continue unabated?

This small series was based on an photograph of my sister reading. I was experimenting with potential cover designs for a book on literary criticism. The author found the images too bleak so it was not to be but I enjoyed making them all the same.

An aquatint etching of a faded cave painting in the Groot Winterhoek mountains. I don’t know if the artist intended the head to melt back into the body or if the original head was washed away by the elements.

Our family has a farm near the tiny town of Willowmore in the Great Karoo. The silence at night becomes a noise of it's own and the vast empty landscapes both calm and unsettle me. These images were all made in 2010 after a long trip to the farm.

I created this monotype from a photograph I took on an empty stretch of dirt road in Namibia. Our car had a flat tire and even though the landscape appeared completely deserted, within a few minutes these three small boys materialized from a nearby village, followed by a donkey cart.
